Traffic Accidents

The front ends of two cars smashed together

A traffic accident occurs when a road vehicle collides with another vehicle, pedestrian, animals or other road obstacles. Traffic accidents can result in injury, property damage and of course death.

Accidents mainly happen due to driver error, intoxication, old age, fatigue, poor eyesight and other human factors. A 1985 study using British and American crash reports as data, found that 57% of crashes were due solely to driver factors, 27% to combined roadway and driver factors, 6% to combined vehicle and driver factors, 3% solely to roadway factors, 3% to combined roadway, driver, and vehicle factors, 2% solely to vehicle factors and 1% to combined roadway and vehicle factors.

Everyone has the responsibility of maintaining road safety. Inconsiderate drivers who drive too fast, those who cut into other people’s driving lane, impatient pedestrians who cross the road dangerously often result in fatal accidents.

Everyday when you open the newspaper, there must be a few cases of traffic accidents reported. I think its really a pity that many people all over the world die just because of traffic accidents. Humans invented motor vehicles for movement, but it in turn causes many deaths everyday. Technology may have helped us, but it also may have killed us. So, is the invention of motor vehicles a good invention or a bad invention? The debate continues.
